Mayor Vows To Improve Sonoma Bay - West Palm Beach News Story - WPBF West Palm Beach

"When one goes down, we all go down..." I guess this is something I should keep in mind since I'm so set on buying into a community.

On to my next adventure!

No new entries in February? Hmm... must have been an uneventful month. (NOT)! February was my busiest so far. Where do I begin? I started a new position (SENIOR mental health therapist!!), I'm house hunting and I'll be seeing more of the Treasure Coast in the next few months ;-) I put my paperwork together for my state internship- I'm actually waiting on one letter and I'll have my new supervisor sign off. Ahhhhh....one step closer to licensure!

The house hunting part is fun, too. I am just at the beginning of it all but I'm adding to my wish list. I haven't even narrowed down to whether I want a townhouse or single, but I do know I want a 2-story home. I can hear Poppy's voice in the back of my head, "Don't buy a townhouse, you won't have a yard, you have to pay hoa fees, you don't own the land". A yard? I don't need one. I won't be planting trees, I don't have kids or pets to worry about and if I feel the need to run around in the grass, I'll visit them for the weekend ;) HOA fees? Mortgage/taxes/HOA would still be less than rent. I found a 3/2 with a garage just south of the Gardens for 65k. Great neighborhood and gated community. I found out that most of the homes in that community sold for over 200k 6 years ago. I don't mind buying in this low- I have no plans on reselling if I can get it cheap. My neighbor put some bids on a couple of houses there.

I also found this 'hidden' area south of Jupiter (near FAU). Beautiful townhomes- similar architecture to the apartment community I live in but even nicer. It's off of a really pretty tree-lined street and sort of curves off into its own corner of the neighborhood. Those homes are going for $120-$155. Not bad but the hoa fees are pretty steep.

I LOVE palm beach county but work is calling me elsewhere. So in the meantime, I'm having Timmy play real estate agent and help me find some nice places up and down the coast. He's well connected in the area and I need a real 'insiders' point of view of all the neighborhoods here. I'm also keeping my ears open incase my neighbor has any tips for me. This is SOOOO exciting. The next couple of months had better fly by :)

Enjoying the View

I can't remember if I made a resolution or not this year. Hmmm.... pretty sure I did but, anyway, if I didn't already make one, I will just do it right now: I resolve to work smarter, not harder, in 2010. Last year was a doozy, now it's time to pull back a bit. I've always been a believer in taking weekend trips, lounging at the beach (that's a pic at Singer Island) or just staying home and reading a good book. Didn't get to do it as much as I wanted to last year so that has to change...

2009 can only be defined as school, school, work and school. Who does that?!? One thing I know about myself is that I don't put limits on what I can do and I usually stick with it until the end. I can only give God the glory for finishing grad school because it was impossible for me to have done any of that on my own. The one thing I WON'T do this year, is just work to the point of exhaustion! It's always good to take time for yourself- no use studying until 3am if you're going to oversleep and miss class the next day. And that goes for work, too. It's great to be balanced and it's okay to give yourself a break on a regular basis.

So to quote Barbara Walters, this year in 2010, I'll just "Take a little time and enjoy the view". So who's with me?

Brrrr....

I couldn't let another day go by without blogging about the weather. Yep, its cold. Very, very cold. It's been going on like this for almost 2 weeks. Normally, I LOVE cold weather....just as long as I'm indoors and nice and snuggly. Now if it actually decided to snow- then it would be worth my while. But other than that, this cold weather is doing nothing for me. So the price of orange juice will go up (thanks to the frost), the price of fuel will increase (higher gas prices?) and now I have to postpone my beach day for another week or two. But all in all, I'd rather be here in sunny Florida (cold weather or not) than any other state right now. I have to feel bad for people dealing with all the snow/ice issues and other severe weather out there. Watching all the news footage of weather related accidents, power outtages, etc. just makes me realize I can manage to tolerate the temp. change for a couple of weeks.

So suspicious....

....of repair people! Sometimes I think I go over board with this but I tend to think that If I allow anyone in to fix stuff while I'm not home, I'm pretty sure they will try to get their hands into things that they shouldn't get into. I even go so far as to leave little booby traps around my place just to see if anyone opened a door they shouldn't have or stepped into a location that has absolutley nothing to do with the repairs that I called about. I'll even position the remote control in such a way that I'll know if someone moved it while I was away. Yea that's crazy right?

Well....this last incident made me think I'm not so nutty afterall when it comes to this. Last week, I needed to get my internet looked at. I have been having some weird issues with intermittent connectivity and phone issues. So it turns out that they needed to rewire my alarm system since that was the cause of the interference (with the phone and the internet). 'Okay, so whatever'- I thought. 'As long as someone can come and fix it, I'm okay with whatever needs to be done. I just need to know a specific time you'll be here so I can be home....and watch you while you work'

Alright well, I didn't actually say the last part but that's what I was thinking. Anyway, Mr. Repairman came over the next day. I lead him straight to the outlet in question. Great. He's working fast so that is just FABULOUS! I had an appointment in an hour so I was hoping that he could wrap it up in the next 20 minutes. Well, 10 minutes later, he emerges and reports that the problem is fixed. Good, nice, ok. BUT....I see that he grabs his little computer from his work bag- I'm assuming he's typing up a work report of some sort, right? I guess, I don't know. But I mentally gave him about 5 minutes to do it all.

So as I watch him turn on his computer and begin to write the report, I noticed that he goes over to my couch and makes himself comfy! So I'm looking at him like, 'alright well, are we done here?' But no, of course not because not only is he now sitting on the couch, typing out a report, but now he's watching the "VIEW" and making comments about the guests on the show!! Rather than over react, I gave him the benefit to at least let him finish up his work. However, this went on for a good 10 minutes more. (Watch the clock- 10 minutes is a long time when you think about it). And that's not really the worse part. I look over at him, every other minute or so, and I catch him watching the TV (not typing or anything but just WATCHING TV). How rude. I don't think I'm over-reacting in this case. That's just rude of him, isn't it? Well, isn't it???!!!

Anyway, right as I got up to say something and attempt to wrap it up (nicely, of course), his phone rings. And just like that, he hops up and packs his computer away and off he went. Hrumph! I think he was trying to take a break on my time. It makes me think of the hidden video of the computer repair guys snooping through customer's personal info.

Hm, makes you wonder what people will do if they can get away with it....
